Loving and trusting Teacher- Student Relationship at Sakalya

Relationship is the greatest and most well-utilised resource in Sakalya Prep for improving learning and behaviour. Students spend more than 700 hours with their teacher in a typical school year. That’s enough time to build a relationship that could ignite a student’s lifetime love of learning—and it’s enough time for the dynamic to go totally off the rails. That is exactly why Sakalya has a relationship mapping strategy in place.

During Faculty Development program at Sakalya Prep, teachers are introduced to relationship mapping strategy. Our teachers are trained to go much deeper than social engagement with children and actually start to engage with students around their curiosity, their interests and their habits of mind.

The teacher maintains the colour coded relationship rubrics for each student of hers. Every month teacher revisits this and presents it during the faculty meeting. This excellent strategy based on the mapping inputs introduced by Harvard certified early education leader has proved to be of great impact on the emotional development and psychological safety enjoyed by the children in our preschool setting.

However, this is not a one-time exercise. Teachers keep observing occasional falling out of the children due to various factors of long absence, delay in developing relation with a new child in the class, may be some changes at home and neighbourhood level etc. Our teachers are guided to use proven strategies to get them back into the love net.

We are dynamic and we are growing that is how we are holistic!
