Celebrating Friendship at Sakalya Wisdom Early Years

At Sakalya Wisdom Early Years, we believe in the power of friendship and the importance of fostering strong, meaningful relationships from an early age. On July 30th, we celebrated International Day of Friendship with a series of engaging activities that highlighted the values of sharing, caring, and companionship.

Crafting Friendship Cards

Our celebration began with a creative activity where children were provided with craft resources to make friendship cards for their best friends. The enthusiasm and creativity of both children and parents were evident in the beautifully crafted cards. Parental involvement added a special touch, showcasing the collaborative spirit of our community and the importance of family in our educational journey.

Storytelling Sessions

To help our young learners understand the significance of friendship, we selected age-appropriate stories for each class:

  • K2 and K1: We chose "The Rainbow Fish" by Marcus Pfister. This heartwarming story teaches children about the joy of sharing. The Rainbow Fish learns that giving away his beautiful scales to others brings him more happiness than keeping them all to himself, emphasizing the true essence of friendship.

  • Pre-K: For our Pre-K students, we selected "Should I Share My Ice Cream?" by Mo Willems. This delightful tale from the Elephant and Piggie series tells the story of Elephant Gerald, who must decide whether to share his ice cream with his best friend Piggie. The book offers a valuable lesson about sharing and caring for others.

  • PG1 and PG2: "How Do Dinosaurs Play with Their Friends?" by Jane Yolen and Mark Teague was a hit with our youngest learners. This fun and engaging story teaches children about the dos and don'ts of playing with friends, emphasizing good manners and the joy of friendship.

A Culture of Meaningful Celebrations

Celebrating UN-declared days is a core part of Sakalya Wisdom Early Years’ culture. These observances provide us with the opportunity to immerse ourselves in meaningful activities that enrich our students’ learning experiences. Whether it’s organizing a donation drive on Mandela Day or conducting storytelling sessions to develop social and emotional skills on International Friendship Day, we ensure that each celebration is educational and impactful.

Our International Day of Friendship celebration was a wonderful success, reflecting our commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals who value and cherish their friendships.
